Biography

Jaime received a Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, in Bogota-Colombia. Moreover, he holds a Master's and PhD degrees in Computational Science, Engineering and Mathematics from the Oden Institute of the University of Texas at Austin. His dissertation, supervised by Professor Leszek Demkowicz, was titled "PolyDPG: a discontinuous Petrov-Galerkin methodology for polytopal meshes with applications to elasticity", and defended in 2020.

From 2022 Jaime joined the Faculty of Fundación Universitaria Konrad Lorenz, in Bogota-Colombia. In 2024 and 2025, Jaime returned to the Oden Institute to collaborate in the research on finite element simulations of optical fibers.

Jaime is interested in formulating, analyzing and implementing numerical methods for the solution of mathematical models of complex science and engineering applications, focusing on finite element methods. His past and ongoing research has been involved with both linear and nonlinear multiphysics models from classical mechanics and electromagnetics, also dealing with diverse aspects of the numerical solutions, such as novel discretizations, functional analysis, error analysis, and computational performance, among others.
